The Big Biscuit is proud to celebrate educators with our third-annual Teacher Appreciation Giveaway.
At The Big Biscuit, we believe teachers are the heart of every community, shaping future leaders with passion, creativity, and dedication. We’re celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week by giving communities the chance to recognize the educators who make a difference every day.
OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR STORIES

Amber Carlyle — Springfield, MO Amber teaches in a cross-categorical classroom, working with students who have IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). She supports students across multiple grade levels and collaborates closely with teachers to ensure each student’s work is properly differentiated to meet their individual needs and goals. Mrs. Carlyle consistently goes above and beyond for her students. When a student is in need—whether it’s Christmas presents, a bed, or other essentials—Amber does everything she can to make sure they are cared for. She is deeply committed to making sure her students have better opportunities and support than she did growing up. Amber is a true inspiration to those around her, and other teachers naturally follow her lead. When she organizes initiatives, such as hosting breakfasts for families, others are eager to join and help. She also started the Wildflowers Girls Club, an after-school program designed to support and uplift female students. Seeing the impact, other teachers quickly got involved to support the effort.

Jennifer Spears — Springdale, AR Mrs. Spears consistently goes above and beyond to inspire a love of reading in every student she sees. Her passion for literacy shines through in everything she does—from thoughtfully curating engaging books to incorporating creative and meaningful media experiences. She transforms the library into a vibrant, welcoming space where imagination and curiosity thrive. Her energy, creativity, and genuine enthusiasm make learning both fun and memorable. Students are not only excited to visit the library, but they leave feeling empowered as readers and thinkers. Mrs. Spears builds connections with students that foster confidence and a lifelong appreciation for literacy. They are truly fortunate to have a librarian who brings such heart, innovation, and joy to her role every single day.

Frank Newingham — Wichita, KS Mr. Newingham has made a meaningful impact across his AVID, Nature’s Champions, and science classes by consistently promoting responsibility, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. He empowers students to make earth-friendly choices and take pride in caring for their environment. Through his leadership, he has also developed a large-scale recycling program that teaches students how to responsibly recycle materials such as metal and outdated technology. This initiative not only builds real-world skills, but also serves as a successful fundraiser that benefits the entire school community.

Kaylee West — Fort Leavenworth, KS This is Kaylee‘s third year teaching kindergarten. She is working on her masters as a reading specialist and will graduate in May 2026. She develops a close relationship, not only with our students, but with their families. The students move often, but many families keep in touch with her after they have moved. On April 1st, she received a message from one of her previous students saying that he did the April Fool’s trick that she did to them last year in class. She tore up a brown paper sack and put it in a Tupperware container and told the kids that she made them brownies. When she opened the container, she yelled April Fool’s! She has students from prior years that stop her in the hallway every morning to say good morning to her because she helped them transition into a new school district in the middle of the year last year. I am beyond proud of what she has accomplished.

Amanda Walker — Carl Junction, MO
Mrs. Walker has made an impact as the Business Department Head, teaching Personal Finance and Graphic Design as well as leading FBLA. Mrs. Walker serves as both our local Gold Chapter Advisor and our Missouri District 17 lead advisor for FBLA and has facilitated 4 FBLA state championship events and 12 National Event Qualifiers.
Students know that Mrs. Walker will go out of her way to help them with anything they need, from providing supplies they may need to additional instruction and support. Mrs. Walker also makes an impact on our CTE Department staff as our Professional Learning Community Leader. She facilitates our weekly meetings, coordinates our yearly events, and guides the four Departments (FACS, Ag, Technology & Engineering, and Business) through all of the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education requirements.
Because there are lots of required activities, meetings, grant paperwork, and follow-up proof submissions for our department, Mrs. Walker does a phenomenal job organizing our CTE department to stay on top of deadlines and prepare for whatever is next in our calendar. Mrs. Walker is highly deserving of any and all recognition for her service to our community.
